Despite the overall softness in today's economy, consumers are still spending, and the Watchung-based Silbert Realty & Management Co. reports that activity has remained brisk in the leasing and disposition of many of the company's New Jersey properties.

According to Brian S. Silbert, president of the firm that bears his name, recent projects include The 90,000-sf Hillsborough Centre in Hillsborough Twp. is another project managed and leased by Silbert, who has upgraded landscaping, common areas and overall operations as managing and leasing agent for the asset.

Anchored by a Stop & Shop supermarket and a Blockbuster Video store, the community shopping center is near the 100% occupancy mark with negotiations ongoing for the space that is available. At Green Brook Plaza in Green Brook, meanwhile, Silbert has recruited such national retailers as Dunkin' Donuts, Baskin-Robbins, Subway and Curves for Women, bringing occupancy above 90%.

Re-positioned in 2001 after a disposition by Silbert's firm to a private developer, the two-level enclosed mall is now two-thirds occupied by national tenants. Silbert has another new upscale project in Somerset County : Pre-leasing is underway for the Shoppes @ Branchburg. And in Warren County , the 300,000-sf WalMart-anchored Mansfield Commons in Mansfield Twp. is currently undergoing phase two construction.

Silbert Realty & Management Co., Millington, has been hired by the Bocina organization as managing agent and consultant for a 58,000 sf mixed-use retail/office center in Basking Ridge.
